Stockholm is celebrated for its innovate approach to design and its willingness to embrace creativity.
When we were approached by one of the UK’s leading lighting designers, Studio Fractal, to work on a project in Stockholm, we relished the challenge.

The brief
Studio Fractal designed a unique figure of eight feature that would be suspended from the atrium ceiling in Sweden’s Solna Shopping Mall. In the safe confidence that Kemps are experts at producing bespoke pieces, we were ultimately specified. The system we recommended spanned 5m x 12m and was constructed from 1.5mm white powder coated aluminium panels with two runs of internal RGB LEDs (Tri-chip Semi Soeul Conductor LED). These were controlled by a Mode Colourstyle to create eye-catching colour scenes throughout the day. To bring the creation to life, the full feature was wrapped in Barrisol translucent stretch fabric.
Manufacture & installation
The whole system was manufactured by Kemps and shipped to site in less than four weeks. We flew four of our skilled engineers to Stockholm and, by working closely with our client and the mall’s management, we had the whole system suspended and in full working order within four days. To avoid trade disruption, noise and possible accidents with the public, our team worked through the night as a means of convenience to all concerned.
Studio Fractal, Solna Shopping Mall and the Kemps team are all extremely happy with this work of art that truly is the centre-piece of the mall.
