Westquay Shopping CentreSouthampton

We were contacted by prestigious lighting design firm, George Sexton Associates (GSA), who asked us to create a series of bespoke fixtures for the Westquay Shopping Centre project in Southampton.

Our team accepted the challenge with excitement and intrigue. Bespoke lighting is not only an area where we have great experience, but it is also one of the most rewarding elements of our work, so we took up the challenge and our team began working from GSA’s concepts.

The first fixture

The first fixture was an illuminated exterior trunk that had a nautical theme and would be used for seating in the pedestrian areas.

Our design team came up with a translucent GRP solution with exterior stainless steel strapping and internal 3000K Osram LED using our Proteus 24V product. Careful planning has meant the end solution works fantastically and the 34 seats have become quite a talking point.

The second fixture

The second fixture was an illuminated bollard made from timber, acrylic and aluminium with an internal LED 3000K cob and heatsink. Again, the concept was designed and presented by GSA, and our team were tasked with creating a more detailed design from which to manufacture the fittings.

The bollards are 1300mm x 300mm and we produced 10 in total for the shopping centre’s interior. The spaced timber slats around the clear acrylic create an elegant pattern across the floor tiles and we are incredibly pleased with the final effect.

The curved façade

Finally, we supplied over 120m of our Alphaeus 1 exterior Luxeon 3000K LED wall washing product which lights the new curved façade of the building’s exterior. The product is fully dimmable via DMX512 integral drivers using a very quick and easy plug and socket connector between each fixture to ease installation time.

This was an exciting and challenging project for our team but our extensive knowledge and capabilities have enabled us to deliver the exact requirement – all within budget.

The overall effects of the lighting we supplied at Westquay are a prime example of how concepts can be realised when you work with a creative team who go above and beyond to get every detail exactly right. We have learnt a lot from this project and we look forward to carrying this experience into our future projects, wherever they may be.
