Bankside YardLondon

Kemps Lighting supplied hundreds of metres of its Proteus M and Flexus 3 LED systems to deliver a refined and immersive ambient lighting scheme at Arbor, Bankside Yard, helping to shape the building’s distinctive atmosphere.

Carefully integrated throughout the space, the lighting plays a central role in defining the environment—enhancing architectural features, creating depth, and establishing a warm, inviting tone. The flexibility of the Proteus and Flexus ranges allowed for seamless application across a variety of areas, ensuring consistent, high-quality illumination while supporting the building’s modern design language.

Situated within the fossil-fuel-free Bankside Yards masterplan, Arbor is conceived as a hub for interaction, creativity, and inspiration. The ambient lighting scheme contributes significantly to this vision, subtly guiding occupants through the space while reinforcing a sense of comfort and wellbeing.

The success of the Arbor project is underpinned by the exceptional vision and collaboration between  Studio Fractal  & PLP Architecture.

PLP conceived a forward-thinking, human-centric environment that seamlessly integrates workplace, culture, and public realm, setting a new benchmark for mixed-use developments in London.

Complementing this, Studio Fractal’s lighting design brings the architecture to life with a carefully considered approach to ambience, hierarchy, and visual comfort. Their scheme sensitively enhances the materiality and form of the building, using light not only as a functional element but as a tool to shape experience, mood, and identity throughout the space.

Together, the design teams have created a cohesive and inspiring environment where architecture and lighting work in harmony, delivering a truly engaging and dynamic destination.

Credit also to T Clarke for ensuring a seamless delivery and for their precision, coordination, and attention to detail which were instrumental in bringing the design to fruition, ensuring that every element was executed to the highest standard.

The lighting design balances day and night conditions, subtly enhancing natural light within the lobby while maintaining visual continuity between the internal and external soffits so they read as one. At night, the scheme brings the exterior to life, highlighting the surrounding space and emphasising the historic façade.
