Kemps was specified by StudioFractal to design and manufacture a bespoke, hexagonal LED lightbox as a part of the refurbishment of the West One Shopping Centre, Oxford St, London.
This was an extremely challenging project for us as we were required to create 128 bespoke LED luminaires in just 8 weeks.

The brief
The project involved designing, extruding and assembling a new Aluminium profile. The fixtures were designed to slot into the centre’s hexagonal ceiling tiling and were as much about creating a spectacle as they were practically lighting the space.
The unique shape meant we were unable to illuminate them using off the shelf LED PCB’s. Instead, our team designed and manufactured a unique triangular PCB to ensure full illumination without any spotting or shadows.
A brand new Kemps product

Each fitting was lit by OSRAM 4000K LEDs with DALI dimmable drivers and 14 of these were fitted with additional 3hr emergency packs to meet with health and safety regulations.
This project was a complex one with tight deadlines, however, our projects team liaised effectively with key suppliers and our client, MJ Electrical, throughout to ensure the project was coordinated to suit their programme of installation.
